Sunny Brow Playschool's FAQ

What ages do you cater for?
We cater for children from 9 months old up to 4 years old. Our small setting is ideal for supporting children through their crucial pre-school development. Places available for children aged 9 months to 4 years old. All year round or Term time options. All funding accepted for the All sessions.
What is your staff-to-child ratio?
We strictly adhere to and often exceed the statutory ratios. Our small setting allows us to maintain low ratios (typically 1:4 for 2-year-olds and younger and 1:8 for 3-4-year-olds) to ensure high levels of individual attention and care.
What curriculum do you follow?
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework, which outlines seven key areas of learning and development. Our approach is largely play-based, recognising that children learn best when they are actively engaged and having fun.
How do you prepare children for school?
During the preschool year we work on essential skills focusing on the Prime Areas (Communication and Language; Physical Development; Personal, Social and Emotional Development) and the Specific Areas (Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design). We work on essential skills like independence, listening, following instructions, and early literacy/numeracy to ensure a smooth transition to primary school.
Is there outdoor play?
Yes, we believe deeply in the importance of outdoor learning. We have dedicated outdoor space and incorporate daily outdoor play regardless of the weather, promoting physical health and exploration.
What is your settling-in process?
We can offer a flexible and gentle settling-in schedule tailored to your child. This typically involves phased visits where you stay with your child initially, gradually moving to short independent sessions until they are happy and confident to stay alone.
What are your safeguarding procedures?
The safety of our children is paramount. All staff are thoroughly DBS checked, trained in First Aid, and receive regular safeguarding training. We have strict, written policies regarding drop-off/collection, visitors, and responding to concerns.
